History

Kentucky’s music history began with Appalachian folk music that descended into the eastern portion of the state when the pioneers began to settle. As time progressed, people passed on the traditions of country music and Appalachian music songs.  Many of those songs were sung while working in the farm fields, on front porches, in church, at barn dances such as Renfro Valley Barn Dance, and one room school rooms.  For many, the music moved them to reflect on life, whether it was of sadness or happier times.
