Museum of Appalachia to host Great Appalachian Fiddlers’ Convention
The Museum of Appalachia will be hosting the 2nd annual Great Appalachian Fiddlers’ Convention. It is an opportunity for musicians across the region to compete for cash and bragging rights. The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., rain or shine, on June 1, 2019.
Join others for a day filled with music, contests, cash prizes, jamming on the Museum grounds as well as Southern food and fare. You can tour the museum and see the history of the Appalachian region’s music come alive through exhibits and artifacts. Bring a chair and enjoy the contests on the outdoor stage.
The competitions begin at Noon with the children and youth categories first, followed by the adult categories. The age groups are 12 and under, 13-17, and 18 years and up. Categories include fiddle, old time banjo, bluegrass banjo, mixed (guitar, mandolin, dobro, etc), and band competition. Registration is $15 per contestant, per category through May 28th, or $20 at the gate. Band registration is $40 per band through May 28th, or $50 at the gate. Children and Youth Contestant registration is free.
Advance tickets for the Great Appalachian Fiddlers’ Convention are $15 per person for age 18 & up, $10.00 per person for youth ages 13-17, and $5.00 per person for children age 6-12.
