Road to Fame contest to help Kentucky tornado victims
On March 2, the state of Kentucky was hit by devastating storms and tornadoes leaving behind at least 23 reported deaths, hundreds of injuries and a wake of destruction. Most of the damage occurred in the counties surrounding the Country Music Highway (US Route 23), an area which has given rise to a large number of country music superstars including Loretta Lynn, The Judds, Tom T. Hall, Dwight Yoakam, Patty Loveless, Billy Ray Cyrus, Ricky Skaggs and many more. With the launch of the Country Music Highway “Road to Fame” Talent Competition slated to begin on March 15, volunteers will be on hand collecting money donations to assist in the storm relief efforts. Country Music Highway “Road to Fame” talent competition organizers hope the first round of auditions will give local residents something positive in the midst of such great sadness. “We are expecting hundreds of people to attend the four auditions,” said Ken Carriere, Chairman of the Country Music Highway Committee, “We saw we had an opportunity to use this competition to raise funds for our neighbors in need.”
The “Road to Fame” competition is seeking out the next generation of stars who reside in the 16 counties surrounding the Country Music Highway (Letcher, Pike, Floyd, Johnson, Lawrence, Boyd, Greenup, Harlan, Perry, Knott, Magoffin, Martin, Morgan, Elliott, Carter and Lewis). The grand prize winner will receive a career development course with PCG Nashville valued at approximately $25,000 among other prizes.
“It is very important for contestants to read the contest rules and be fully aware of the age and residency requirements before attending the auditions,” Carriere emphasized.
